Information collected
Protecting your privacy and your personal information is an important aspect
of the way the AMES creates, organises and implements our activities on-line
and off-line. Our privacy policy reflects and complies with the Privacy Act
1988, the Information Privacy Act 2000 (Vic) and other legislation.
We will only collect personal information from you with your prior knowledge
and consent. You can access our website home page and browse our site without
disclosing personal information.
When you look at this web site, our Internet Service Provider makes a
record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical
purposes:
- your server address
- your top level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, .uk etc)
- the date and time of your visit to the site
- the pages you accessed and documents downloaded
- the type of browser you are using.
Access to information collected
AMES will not make an attempt to identify users or their browsing activities.
However, in the unlikely event of an investigation, a law enforcement
agency or other government agency may exercise its legal authority to
inspect
our Internet Service Provider's logs.
Use of information collected
In order to utilise certain features on our web site, visitors will need
to register with some basic information about themselves. AMES will also
record your e-mail address if you send us a message. Your details and
e-mail address will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided
it and it will not be added to a mailing list or used for any other purpose
without your consent.
This site does not provide facilities for the secure transmission of information
across the Internet. Users should be aware that there are inherent risks
transmitting information across the Internet.
Cookies
The web site makes limited use of cookies. Their only purpose is to provide
tracking of user sessions. In a dynamic application, the server needs
to know which user is making each page request and to keep track of which
users are logged in, etc. It does this by writing a single ID number
to each client browser - there is no user information such as names,
IP addresses, etc, sent with the cookie. Every time the browser requests
a page from the web site it sends this ID number cookie back to the server,
which the server uses to identify the session. Once the browser is closed
the cookie is destroyed and there is no permanent record left on the
client computer of that browser/user having visited the site. Those users
who have cookies rejected by default in their web browser must configure
it to accept them in order to use the online courses properly.
